Profiles
These are just some of the faces behind the Forum.
Mark L. Levinson

Mark L. Levinson is not only the author of The Why of Style column, but has been helping the Forum behind the scenes almost from the start. He has written advertising for Scitex, user manuals for Daisy Systems and Memco, and many other once-useful documents for now-forgotten software companies. He has picked up extra change as a translator, editor, newspaper columnist, and poet. Resume
Svi Ben-Elya
Svi founded the Forum to bring all parts of the technical writing community (independent contractors, TW companies, and in-house writers) together and learn what the real needs of local industry are and how to better meet those needs. This vision has led to more and better paying jobs for technical writers, and better documentation at lower cost for industry - a true win-win situation.
As both an in-house writer and direct contractor for over 20 years, Svi has developed a reputation for innovation and helping companies solve their documentation problems painlessly. Within the technical writing community, Svi's reputation for helping others has enabled him to gather the information from colleagues and competitors alike that is necessary to match companies with the writers and tech writing companies that best meet their needs. Maya Regev

Maya was first introduced to computers in the 1970's, when she was provided with discarded computer punch-cards which she used for drawing flowers and butterflies. Now the senior technical writer at Synel Ltd., she is responsible for all of the technical material provided with the company's products. In addition, Maya maintains the Elephant Jobs section and coordinates refreshments for forum meetings.
After hours, Maya can be spotted at Haifa's best parks and playgrounds with her two children.
Eitan Reuveni איתן ראובני

Sharon Mink
Sharon Mink, born in Brooklyn, New York, made aliya with her husband David, nearly 25 years ago. After 25 year time working in biological laboratories on and around the Technion Campus, Sharon decided to give up research in molecular biology to be able to spend more time writing – she chose to start a new career as a technical writer.
Mumpy
Mumpy (an alias) is one of Israel's most humorous technical writers. Given a free hand and a caricaturist she would probably turn otherwise boring manuals into best selling comic books.
Gail Ellis
Gail has worked in high tech so long she can remember when computers filled entire rooms, and the pre-Internet dark ages when technical writers didn't have online dictionaries, tutorials, interest groups, email lists, book reviews and salary surveys to help them earn their daily bread. In her spare time she reads, coaches other writers on the fine art of applying bum-glue to the seat of their chairs, spins (yarn not bicycles), paints (yarn, not pictures), knits, gardens, practices yoga and cares for stray animals.
Anne Picus
![]()
From the start, Anne was very active in promoting the Forum among technical writers in and around the Karmiel area. When the Forum began Anne was a subcontractor looking for more work. Since then she has become fully independent with a solid client base.
Jonathan Plutchok

Jonathan
Plutchok, a rehabilitated attorney, was a well-known financial writer
and marketing communicator in the US before discovering the glamorous
world of Israeli marcom and technical writing about 16 years ago.
Within the technical writing community Jonathan is known for his
predilection toward collecting useful little utilities and Web sites.
Joshua Eliason
Joshua joined the Forum in its infancy and has been an almost regular participant ever since. Joshua lives in the area and has been tech writing in Raanana for longer than he cares to remember, with the occasional foray into the broader freelancing world. When he's not at work, you can catch him cycling the beautiful hills in our area or flying kites.
Mike Lee

Living on Kibbutz Hazorea, Mike made a career change to technical writing just before the first meeting of the Forum. Last summer it was Mike who organized the Forum picnic for TWs and their families at the Hazorea swimming pool intends to turn it into an annual event. Although he tends to undersell himself, he has proved himself on many occasions as an excellent translator and formatter. Currently working as a subcontractor, he is one of the best prospects for an existing team looking to take on an additional writer. Mike holds a B.A. in General History and African Studies, and an M.A. in African Studies, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Dr. Carolyn Tal
In December 2005, Dr. Tal took on the task of writing summaries for the Forum meetings. Although most of her professional time is spent coaching and consulting, Carolyn does do some academic and marketing writing as a sideline because she simply enjoys it.
Bila Sher

Bila is a freelance technical writer and translator. After years of subcontracting the Forum helped Bila find her first direct contract with an agricultural engineer who needed her services to document many of the large local and international hothouse projects that he sets up. Resume
Larry Rosenfeld
Larry has been active in and supportive of the Forum almost since its inception. Since 2002 Larry has been the General Manager at In Other Words, the largest technical writing company in Northern Israel and has been associated with In Other Words since its beginning back in 1981. In his spare time, Larry runs the Karmiel Folk Klub.
