Syllabus:

  • A short history of photography
  • Fundamentals of photography
  • The camera: its parts and workings
  • The lens: its parts and workings
  • The shutter and the diaphragm: focusing, light metering, and depth of field
  • Exposure compensation, metering modes, and photography modes: automatic, semi-automatic, shutter priority, aperture priority, and manual modes
  • Composition: visual and artistic tools used in the making a photograph
  • Visual perception and learning how to see
  • Digital photography vs. film photography
  • Portrait photography, movement, nature photography, street and documentary photography, and abstract photography
  • The use of color in photography
  • Workshops on location: Neve Zedek, Tayelet, Architecture, Kerem Hatemanim, Jaffa
  • Night photography: workshop sessions  followed by a class critique of the student’s work
