Q4 2009 Copy Editors Rate Report
This report is based on input from 19 freelance copy editors (an additional 5 reported zero hours). 18 copy editors provided time-based rate data and only 6 provided page-based rate data (some provided both). New calculations were added that more accurately reflects market rates - details inside the PDF. All rates are those actually charged, not asking rates.

The results of the Salaried Rate Surveys taken July 1-15 have been posted (login and access rights required). The report for Salaried Technical/Marcom Writers consists of 18 pages of detailed breakdowns. The Freelance Rate reports were posted 2-3 weeks ago.
The report for Freelance Technical/Marcom Writers consists of 11 pages of detailed breakdowns. The report for Freelance Copy Editors consists of 9 pages of breakdowns. Participation in the surveys increased, especially among Salaried Technical/Marcom Writers.

New calculations were added that more accurately reflect true market rates. These calculations are based on the entire pool of individual billable hours rather than on rates for each writer. These calculations assume that each writer charges the same rate for each billable hour. In order to post this report early I did not include these calculations in various breakdowns, but I hope to post an updated version later in the quarter.
