  • Using Software Media Clips to Enhance Documentation & Training Materials
Software documentation invariably include some screenshots to illustrate procedures. However, this is not sufficient in order to demonstrate the actual procedure, and the result is either wordy procedures trying to fill in the gaps between one screenshot and the next, or a procedure spanning across a number of pages, with a screenshot for each step. This may have been inevitable in the days of printed documents, but nowadays documents are often not even supplied in printed format, and many users prefer on-screen documentation. This is where the technical communicator can become more than a writer, take advantage of the added value of electronic documents, and add movie clips demonstrating the software processes and functions.
In this course you will learn how to plan, script and storyboard your movie clip depending on the type of usage (training, online help, marketing materials, etc); how to record the workflow, edit the movie and add titles, callouts and captions; and how to integrate the movie into the documentation. In addition, the course discusses possible setups, common output formats and options, and the available tools in the market.
