1. Build a Better Story: Focus on Storytelling Structure Workshop with Sari Friedman
Whether you're writing a literary novel or easy-reader children's book, a science fiction movie script or flash fiction, your job is to hook your readers with an intriguing beginning, increasingly engage your readers as your story develops, and give them a satisfying and evocative sensation of closure at your story's end. In this workshop you'll do several exercises, write in short productive spurts, and cover everything from the basics of storyboarding and narrative structure to sophisticated techniques for generating dramatic suspense. You’ll learn the differences between storytelling styles; strengthen your ability to build a spectacular beginning, middle and end; and fortify your understanding of plot, drama, narrative arc, story architecture and more. Open to all levels, all genres.
Date: Thursday, May 16 from 10:30 – 14:30
Cost: 390 NIS includes light, kosher, vegetarian lunch
2. Yoga-Writing Workshop with Jennifer Lang
We all have stories to tell. For some of us, they lie buried, deep inside, occasionally rising up and taking us by surprise. In this workshop, we will plumb our bodies and our minds through movement and meditation to find our stories and begin to write them. We’ll explore how the practice of yoga enriches the art of writing. As Susanna Harwood Rubin said, “Writing can be a purging, a meditation, a creative investigation in the same way that a yoga practice can burn off what isn’t serving us, draw us into contemplation, or ignite our creativity. The process can feel hesitant or fluid, peaceful or driven, playful or gut wrenching.” Through a thoughtful mix of breathing, meditation, and movement accessible to everyone, writing exercises, group sharing and discussion, we will dive into our minds and generate new work.
Date: Thursday, June 13 from 10:30 – 14:30
Cost: 390nis includes light, kosher, vegetarian lunch
3. Workshopping Summer Camp with Jennifer Lang
Workshopping focuses on the writing, hones in on what’s present on the page, what’s missing, and how the writing needs to change to meet a set of standards. It is a supportive, safe place designed to lift your writing to the next level. Anything we share stays in the room, among us. We are critiquing but not criticizing. This four-week writing camp is aimed at writers with an existing body of work, whether short stories/standalone pieces/chapters in a book, in need of feedback. Open to fiction and nonfiction prose writers.
Dates: Thursdays, July 4, 11, 18, 25 from 10:30am-12:30pm
Cost: 590nis
