Become a Better Writer! I Dare You!
• Become a better writer (don’t try to be a superstar.)
• Build your portfolio (don’t pretend that a single course will necessarily get you published.)
• Learn skills with many applications (don’t memorize a template.)
If you are interested in gaining authentic, broadly serviceable abilities, take this course. If, alternatively, you adore unrealistic expectations, sign up for a different offering.
Writing is hard work. At least 70% of the effort spend on developing a sound project is spent on rewriting. Discipline, thus, is an important part of being a successful creative.
It’s your time and money. You can pay to feel good or you can pay to become good. If you join this class, you will work. You will learn. You will become a better writer.

I work. Decades and discipline have helped me to become a better writer. I was a rhetoric professor and a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar. Thereafter, I was nominated once for The Best of the Net in poetry, three times for the Pushcart Prize in Literature for poetry, once for the Pushcart Prize in Literature for fiction, once for the Million Writers Award for fiction, and once for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay. To boot, I have had more than thirty of my books and thousands of my individual works published (none were self-published). As well, I have served as an editor for several literary journals.
I will teach you what I know without making empty promises. I will ask you to exert yourself and I will invite you to become a better writer.
